Mr. Howard Rieger is the President and CEO of UJC since September 2004. He has served as President of the Pittsburgh Federation from 1981 until 2004. During his tenure he has offered leadership in various elements. Among them: an annual financial resource development effort totaling over$33M in 2002; the 1990-91 Exodus Campaign for resettling Jews from the FSU, which raised $15M; the early 1990's refocusing and redesign of services to the elderly in the Pittsburgh community, resulting in the establishment of the Jewish Association on Aging; conceptualization and implementation of the 1996-99 Renaissance Campaign for the development and renovation of seven local agencies, a $60M effort and a world wide Jewish communal training program which recruited and developed over 450 new professional leaders between its inception in 1989 and 2002.
In addition, Rieger served as Chair of the UJC National Jewish Population Study Publications Advisory Committee and has served in various roles in Israel based activities and projects elsewhere in the Jewish world.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Rieger earned a Ph.D in Government from Southern Illinois University. He recieved his BA in Political Science and a Masters of Public Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
Mr. Rieger is an Associate Member of the Executive since October 2004.
