The proliferation of local list serves has made the process of tracking down local knowledge easier than ever. Need a recommendation for a local handyman, a ride into town or a recommendation for which school to send your kids to? Ask "the list" and you'll typically get a bunch of answers to sort through.
When signing up to groups choose individual emails only for low traffic sites - otherwise the daily digest option (1 email with multiple messages inside) keeps your new messages at a more manageable level.
Below are some of the more popular lists - if you are able to add to them, please let me know - neilg@jafi.org
