A. A Fair Deal, or a New Deal? The Woman’s Role in Judaism

• Find a traditional defence of the position of women in Judaism and a critical feminist attack on the traditional position.

• Half the participants should write down the major points in one position. The other half should write down the major points in the other position.

• Pair off the participants with one person in each pair representing each position. Each person needs to try and explain in the most convincing way possible to the other, the point of view that they have prepared.

• Ask for volunteers from the two “teams” for a debate on the question

THIS HOUSE PROPOSES THAT WOMEN GET A FAIR DEAL IN TRADITIONAL JUDAISM.

• Run the debate. After the first set of “speeches”, people on each team can be changed by others on their team.

• Before the vote, go out of character and continue the discussion with people’s real opinions.
