Bob and Robyn Loup, major donors and leading figures from the Denver/Boulder Colorado Jewish Federation and long time supporters of Israel, visited Nitzana and the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council at the end of March. They attended a ceremony, in which Denver/Boulder funded assistance to 20 needy and new immigrant soldiers was given, as well as scholarships to gifted students in the arts. The recipients were all graduates of the SELAH-Science program and/or live in the Ramat Hanegev and Sde Boker region. The ceremony took place at the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council Offices in the presence of Council Head Shmuel Rifman, Nitzana Director David Palmach and many others.

The Loups took this opportunity to present a check to the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council to strengthen security in the area. The donation was a Designated Giving contribution by Denver/Boulder Jewish Federation within the framework of the UJC's Israel Emergency Campaign. The assistance will be used for fencing of Negev settlements and included an additional contribution for special needs of the SELAH and KEDMA programs at Nitzana such as psychological counseling, and transportation to and from Nitzana and the center of the country.
The Loups stressed the ongoing commitment of the Denver/Boulder Jewish Federation to Nitzana and the Negev.
At Nitzana they met with the village's chef, Yuri Leibowitz. A graduate of Nitzana's ulpan, who immigrated to Israel from the Former Soviet Union five years ago, Leibowitz used to be an actor and ran a puppet theater in his native country. In Nitzana he has turned his creative talents into a culinary direction, delighting Nitzana's students with his abilities in the kitchen.
