Introduction - Nir Lahav
Dear Friends,
These past 10 months, since I've begun working as Director of the Youth Futures Division, have been extremely busy and rewarding. Youth Futures is a constantly evolving program that has attracted many partners - in Israel and overseas, GOs and NGOs, private sector businesses and volunteers.
The 2006/7 school year has begun in 22 localities in the Negev and the Galilee, and includes over 5,000 children and teenagers, and over 200 Trustees. We have also built up an efficient professional team to lead and supervise work nationwide, as well as developed a training program for the Trustees and initiated the evaluation process.
We would like to thank Paula Edelstein, the outgoing Co-Chair of the Israel Committee, for her infinite contributions and wish her the best of luck as the new Co-Chair of the Aliyah Committee. Rany Trainin, the new Co-Chair, has just begun working and we welcome him on board.
We would also like to send our warm congratulations to Avi Naor for the birth of his newborn son, and we wish him and his family health and happiness together.
With great appreciation of all of your support in helping the Youth Futures program make a difference in our children's futures, we would like to dedicate this newsletter to providing you with a brief glimpse into our children's lives and the new futures that are being created for them.
Nir Lahav, Director of the Youth Futures Division

YF Updates
 |
Resource development in Israel: We are beginning to see a real development in Israeli philanthropy through Youth Futures. Mr. Arkadi Gaydamak has generously donated to the program nationwide, and other organizations, such as the Karev Foundation, are partnering both in financing the various components and in developing them. The IDB group has also agreed to make a sizeable donation to Youth Futures in various regions.
We believe that the better we are, and the more successful we are with making a true difference with the children and teens - the more other partners will want to join us: the Trustees' success in the field is the best promotion for Youth Futures.

New YF Localities: Since October we have added 6 new localities in the Negev and the Galilee: Acre and Mateh Asher, Netivot and Sdot Negev, Yerucham, and Sderot. 2 Program Coordinators have already been recruited for Yerucham and for Sderot, and are already in the process of recruiting Trustees for these localities. We are also in the process of finalizing the screening process for 2 more Program Coordinators, and they will all undergo the basic training they need for their work. We will give further updates on these new localities in our next progress report. Please see table for details…

Seminars and Peer-Learning Days: The Youth Futures Division held two separate seminars in December for the Program Coordinators: the first gave a comprehensive outlook on the children's personal work plan process, while the second served as a peer learning day on subjects as how to define the proper balance between the various aspects of the Trustees' work, sharing information on the Program Coordinators' daily work, the Trustees' salary and its financial implications, and more. Both seminars were extremely successful in giving the participants tools for work, and we are eagerly looking forward towards our next seminar in March, during which we intend to hold outdoor activities to promote bonding between the various Program Coordinators, the Partnership Directors, the Trustee Coordinators and the Youth Futures professional team.
Two regional seminars - south and north - have taken place during February, and focused on the professional aspects of the Trustees' work with the children, including instruction regarding security measures and guidelines. The seminars were organized and led by the regional Professional Supervisors, social workers in profession and experience.
