Lights Of Peace- Canton
24.3.2008

After reading the booklet "Shalom, Salaam, Peace," the students
made individual or group drawings of their ideas of peace and what it
would look like.

They voted on one to be the "big" banner.  Then they
used the second piece of material that was sent to make a "quilt" of the
other students' proposals.

The class winning banner--Peace Shalom, Salaam--has those three words
on top of 16 flags of many diverse countries.

The students felt that peace is all countries working together to solve world problems.  They
selected countries from all continents --but wanted the United States
and Israeli flags to be in the center --to show that we are working
together.

The second banner has the ideas of the other students in class.  They
felt that including those showed that there are many ideas of what peace
looks like and the "quilt" idea shows that, although different ideas,
they join together to show peace.

The students enjoyed this project. Thank you for letting us be a part of
this.
