Western Galilee College Student Vered Avraham helps at-risk Acco teens get back on track, thanks to her volunteer work at the Hafuch al Hafuch Youth Counseling Center. Avraham, a 24 year-old Sociology Student, receives a Jewish Agency higher education scholarship in exchange for community service. The Jewish Agency provides scholarships to over 1,000 students in the Negev and Galilee, through a special program for residents of Israel's rural sector, coupled with Diaspora community involvement in the Partnership 2000 program.
"The work at Hafuch al Hafuch is very challenging", says Avraham, who has several success stories to her credit. Recognizing the importance of her activity, Avraham volunteered during her summer break as well, even though the program does not require her to do so.
The scholarship program at the Western Galilee College features a new twist this year, coordination with the Israel Ministry of Education's Perach Scholarships, leading to greater impact of the participating students.
