Living bridge

Reverse Kefiada

Ten teen counselors accompanied by 3 chaperones spent time in small groups in Canton, Dallas, Dayton, Ft. Worth, Toledo and Youngstown this past summer. They worked side by side with the American counselors at the JCC summer camps.

The Israeli teams led special activities about Israel, taught Hebrew, Israeli songs, games and added an Israeli flavor to the camps.

Feedback from the youth counselors was excellent. According to them then the best two items in this program are: The fabulous host families and the great kids at camp!!! They are all ready to return and contribute again and again...

Thank you to all those involved.

Maccabia

The Western Galilee and Indianapolis Team

The Youth Maccabia Games are an annual, week long, international, multi- sport, athletic and cultural event held in different American cities uniting Jewish teens since 1982.

This year the JCCs of Indianapolis, Omaha and San Antonio invited young athletes and their chaperones from Matte Asher and Akko to join their local JCC sports team to compete at the National Maccabia Games.

The week before the Maccabia the Israelis were hosted by the 3 communities in order to get acquainted with the local teams, to meet the teens, families and the JCC staff. Feedback from the Israelis was that they felt blessed to have had the unique opportunity of visiting the communities and meeting so many warm and friendly people. Being at the Maccabia was awesome, the Opening Event was a high point for the teens and the coaches The communities' feedback echoed that of the Israeli participants and they had a great time hosting their new Israeli friends.

Akko Theatre

Canton, Forth Worth and Indianapolis are excited to host the Akko Theatre Company. Moni Yosef and Smadar Yaron will perform the play "Anthology", which is a bittersweet, highly acclaimed performance about a Holocaust survivor and her son. The actors will also conduct theatre workshops and meet local artists in each community.

The performances will be in Canton from October 23rd - 26th, in Indianapolis October 26th - 30th, and in Forth Worth October 30th - November 2nd, 2003.
