During the end of June we have been moved by a week of wonderful volunteer work:
Elaine and Martin Fleisher, who hail from West Palm Beach in Florida, came to our region in order to volunteer in our community and do their utmost for our children.
The couple volunteered in the mornings in the Wilkomitz elementary school in Rosh Pina. Elaine, a teacher herself, looked for more volunteer work in the afternoons to promote the English language here. The Youth Futures Trustees in Hazor welcomed her with open arms, and during her week Elaine met with them and exposed them to teaching methods through conversations, and language and writing games.
The chemistry between the Trustees and their new friend was instantaneous and felt on both sides.
Martin chose to invest his time in working with his hands, and helped with exciting and really useful work such as renovating bomb shelters and archeological diggings around Safed and the old city with the "Livnot VeLehibanot" organization. He also took part in a workshop with teenagers who made aliyah from the FSU.
Elaine and Martin's visit warmed our hearts and gave us a wonderful feeling of unity, friendship and solidarity with our brothers and sisters abroad. The joint dinners, trips, political discussions and heart-to-heart talks gave us strength and true appreciation for this inimitable couple!
Thanks also to the Wilkomitz school - to Osnat Rasky, the principal, and the entire administrative and educational staff. Elaine and Martin's visit could not have been such a success without your care and help.
