We recently enjoyed having a teacher from the Herzlia Schools in Cape Town for a three week seminar in our region to study the People to People projects. The emphasis was on programmes that would involve pupils of the schools in SA and in Beit Shemesh/Adulam, like the Ambassadors for Tolerance, Holocaust projects, Peace Projects and other exchange possibilities.
Julian Leon came with his wife and two small children. They were accommodated at Kibbutz Zora and some times Mrs. Leon participated in the tours on site for Juliam. The visit was very intensive and we dealt with all aspects of the work being done in the region by SA and WAshington, although we spent more time on the specific projects that we want to promote through the schools.
The Melitz programme, on the history of the region, the Student Leadership Project, the Ecological Bubble in the primary schools, the Benjamin Library in the new Matnas, the Treatment Centers for Special Education were all on the programme.
Julian Leon found the range of programmes most interesting and exciting and we hope that when the school term commences in mid January, he will enthuse the teaching staff of the Herzlia Schools to participate and encourage as many pupils to join the various exchange programmes being offered in order to bring a more diverse number of pupils from the schools in SA to Israel and visa versa.
