An exciting event took place on Wednesday, May 16, when ShorashimTheater performed at Tel Aviv's Suzan Dalal Center for Dance and Theater in front of a sold out crowd. The performers, Israeli women originally from Ethiopia, now living Beit Shean, preformed at this most prestigious center in all of Israel. The women, ages 28-60, with no previous theatrical experience, recounted their lives in Ethiopia and their Aliya to Israel on foot via the Sudanese desert. Through music and dance, they portrayed a mosaic of their lives and customs. It was a unique performance that appealed to a wide audience.
Shorashim Theater founder,Talia Argaman, is a graduate of the P2K Community Builders Program. She collected the women's stories and taught them how to perform. The performers gained self-confidence, respect and pride in their heritage through the world of theater. They developed skills to express themselves, educate others and continue their traditional lifestyle while integrating into Israeli society.
