ALIZA MALKA MEMORIAL FUND
On Thursday, August 9, Aliza Malka was murdered by Palestinian terrorists just a few hundred yards from the gate of Kibbutz Merav, her home for the past seven years. At the time of her death she was just 16.
All the residents of Merav have been greatly encouraged by the outpouring of sympathy and support we have received during this most difficult time. Many of our friends, both in Israel and abroad, have expressed their desire to reinforce their words with actions. In response, Kibbutz Merav has decided to set up the Aliza Malka Memorial Fund. Donations to the fund will be used for projects to benefit Aliza's "brothers and sisters" in the Merav Children's Group Home (MCGH), and for developing educational programs in her memory.
The MCGH was established in 1994 as a kibbutz-wide project to enable members to "give back" to Israeli society. The children who come to MCGH are from broken, troubled or abusive families; many have been removed from their homes by court order. The kibbutz has built a large house for the children; two kibbutz members are the "parents" who invest countless hours in caring for them and creating a family atmosphere. The ultimate objective is to give the kids the best chance possible to pull their lives together and become proud, productive citizens. Aliza - before her tragic, untimely death - was well on her way towards reaching that goal.
We believe that the best tribute to Aliza's memory is the redoubling of our efforts on behalf of the MCGH, and the continuation of our educational work with all our youth. By investing in projects that were close to Aliza's heart, we can insure that her memory will indeed be for a blessing.
