During the first two weeks of May a conference on the development of sustainability took place at the United Nations Committee in the UN building in New York City. The Committee convenes once a year; every second year a decision-making conference is held, and in the year after that a conference for reports and suggestions is held.  more

We have much to celebrate this year: the bar mitzvah of Partnership 2000, the 60th year of independence for the State of Israel, sixty years of strong friendship between Australia and Israel, and fifty years of settlement in the Arava.  more

The Shittim Orchard, a peaceful green nook located between the Shittim elementary and high schools, was founded and is managed by volunteers from the local community. The aim of the orchard is to provide experiences in a variety of environmental subjects, flora, fauna and agriculture, with emphasis on agricultural work and development of independent creative thinking, but it also serves as place where the children and relax and play.  more

This year three delegations are heading to Australia from the Arava in July: the traditional reciprocal student delegation, a delegation of adult activists and a two-person teachers' delegation.  more
