Community Task Force - Western Galilee Partnership

Partnership 2000: Western Galilee-UJC Central Region Consortium

In 2002, the Steering Committee of the Partnership decided on an organizational change which established six task forces (education, health, art, marketing, regional development and community) in both the Israeli and American sides of the Partnership. The Community Task Force was put together from volunteers with community positions in the region. The Task Force meets monthly and following the meeting a conference call is held with the American Task Force. They discuss the projects (exchange of delegations, English coffee, Young Counselors, athletes, etc.) and their budgets.

    English Coffee Project

A group of adults aged 25-60, residents of Mateh Asher and Acco who meet once per week to learn English though conversation and discussion of a variety of topics. The group was formed following the establishment of the Volunteer Forum in the early days of the Partnership in 1997. Their increasing fluency in English led to the need to further develop the project. The group began talking to representatives of the Canton, Ohio community and last year began holding video conferences once per month. They discuss various topics chosen by the participants such as current affairs, Jewish identity, cultural differences, etc.).

A further extension of the project is currently being pursued in the communities which will be called Hebrew Coffee and will be built along the same lines.
