The Chairs of ten Zionist Federations and 20 representatives of the Zionist Leadership Initiative hailing from 15 different countries gathered in Copenhagen to map out a strategy for strengthening the Zionist Movement in Europe and reaching out to a younger generation.
The Chairs of ten Zionist Federations and 20 representatives of the Zionist Leadership Initiative hailing from 15 different countries gathered in Copenhagen from Feb. 27 – March 3 to map out a strategy for strengthening the Zionist Movement in Europe and reaching out to a younger generation. The agenda included discussions aimed at formulating a contemporary Zionist platform (part of the current process of rewriting the WZO constitution), as well as the consideration of numerous practical ways in which those in attendance might mobilize their communities for Zionist engagement.
The time and place of the gathering was planned to coincide with the celebration of 100 years of the Zionist Movement in Denmark. The festivities, held in Copenhagen's City Hall, was inspirational, and reflected a Jewish community not only dedicated to Israel, but also one held in the highest esteem by its neighbors. The entire undertaking was initiated and organized by Dorrit Norden, Chair of the Zionist Federation of Denmarkand pillar of the Jewish community, who was also instrumental in organizing the conference of the Federations together with the Department for Zionist Activities.
In addition to Departmental staff, the gathering was attended by Haim Hayet, head of the WZO Hagshama Department; David Rosh, a member of the Zionist Executive; Reuven Shalom, advisor to the Chair of the Zionist Executive; Mr. Avi Dickstein, Director of the Resources and Development Division of Keren Kayemet LeYisrael; and Zvi Kahana and Menachem Gourary, central representatives of the Jewish Agency in Europe.
