Large turnouts from all age groups gained a refreshing insight into contemporarty Israeli issues highlighted by Jewish textual sources.
The Mizrachi Federation held it’s first ever Shabbaton at Edgware last Shabbat with the eminent lecturer Dr. Mordy Stein from Kibbutz Ma’ale Gilboa in Israel. He spoke at 5 different occasions over the course of 3 days, including Hasmonean Boys School, Hasmonean Girls, Edgware Adath and Edgware United Synagogues. The subjects of his talks ranged from the High Holidays, ‘Tradition vs. Modernity’, ‘Jewish Renaissance in Modern Israel’ and a comparison of the concept of martyrdom in Judaism and Islam. Over the course of the Shabbat Dr. Stein attracted large turnouts from all age groups and provided the community with a refreshing insight into contemporary Israeli issues highlighted by Jewish textual sources.
Dr Mordy Stein’s talks inspired an early return to action after the summer for both the Adath’s TFI group (Tish, Food and Inspiration, for 16-19 year olds) and the United’s Menucha ve Simcha student minyan run by Rabbi Jeremy Bruce.
Mizrachi’s Kesher program is funded by the World Zionist Organization. It aims to encourage aliyah to Israel, and deepen ‘Israel knowledge’ among British Jews by connecting communities with religious-Zionist academics from Israel. For more information call the Mizrachi office 0208 455 2243.
