To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Theodore Herzl, the South African Zionist Federation held a most successful and stimulating symposium.
Some 300 people attended the evening, which was faciliated by Tom Wheeler, Chief Operating Officer of the SA Institute of International Affairs.
Speakers were Rabbi Dr Warren Goldstein, Chief-Rabbi Elect of SA; Professor Milton Shain, Director of the Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Cape Town; and Mr. Chris Eden, National Director of Bridges for Peace;
Extremely interesting views were put forward by the speakers, all of whom approached the topic from very different aspects but who showed some consensus on the question. The reactions from audience members were extremely positive; while the facilitator felt it to be a most interesting debate, dealing especially with a topic which was not familiar to him. As a result of his comments, the SAZF is to publish the addresses in booklet form for wider distribution and dissemination.
