The Jerusalem Prize in Uruguay

The Zionist Federation of Uruguay has a long tradition of honoring its worthy citizens with the Jerusalem Prize.

The "Jerusalem Prize" is awarded to an outstanding personality in the Jewish community or the general community who supports Israel, Jerusalem and the Zionist Movement.

Following is the list of such worthy recipients in Uruguay:

1990 - Dr. Tabare Vazquez, President elect of Uruguay and first Jerusalem Prize recipient
1991 – Dr. Luis Alberto Lacalle, former President of Uruguay
1992 – Dr. Julio María Sanguinetti, served several terms as President of Uruguay
1993 – Dr. Washington Beltrán, Director of the newspaper "El País "
1994 – Dr. Enrique Tarigo, former Vice President of Uruguay
1995 – Ambassador and journalist, Dr. Julio César Jaureguy
1996 – Dr. Ramiro Rodríguez Villamil, former Director and owner of Radio Sarandí, currently Director of TVeo, the national television channel
1998 – Dr. Jorge Batlle, former Senator and currently President of Uruguay
1999 – Historian Prof. Washington Reyes Abadie
2000 – Arch. Mariano Arana, Major of Montevideo
2001 – Senator Luis Alberto Heber
2002 – Congressman Dr. Nahum Bergstein
2003 – Gral. (R) Líber Seregni
2004 – Orchestra Conductor Roberto Montenegro
