The 2007 Toronto Aliyah Farewell Celebration

June 24, 2007 / 8 Tammuz 5767

On June 17th, 170  members of the Toronto Jewish community were celebrating not only Father's Day, but their aliyah to Israel as well. The festivities organized by the Jewish Agency Aliyah Center in Toronto took place at the Wagman Center.

Among the special guests who participated in the gathering of friends and family of this year's olim, were:

Mr. Yaakov Brosh, the general consul of Israel, who will be making his own "Aliyah" this year, after 4 years in Toronto.

Mr. Ted Sokolsky, the President and CEO of the UJA Federation OF GTA, acknowledged Mr. Stanley Morais and his family as one of the more popular olim of this year,  for his efforts in bringing Israel closer to Toronto, and he wished the olim good luck going "back" home, to Israel.

Rebecca Mora, Stanley's daughter, and one of the younger olim, talked about her excitement in moving to Israel with her family.

Liane Sela, the Jewish Agency for Israel aliyah emissary blessed the olim on their way to Israel and emphasized the importance of the olim who come from Canada, and the fact that they are the most important asset to Israel and its society today.

The "Hallelujah" Drummers from Toronto, together with the Israeli Defense Force "Singing Soldiers" Band, were singing with the crowd, which was dancing, laughing and also crying...out of excitement.
