A Call to Help Sderot

June 21, 2007 / 5 Tammuz 5767

With the help of the Jewish Agency and its donors throughout the world, hundreds of people from Israel and the Diaspora have traveled to Sderot to provide relief, supplies and emotional support to the thousands of residents who are under the daily threat of attack.

From helping to rebuild Sderot’s Community Center as a safe haven for Sderot’s children to organizing missions to publicize Sderot’s perilous situation to the world, the Jewish Agency has been at the forefront of the relief efforts. Director General of the Jewish Agency Moshe Vigdor has seen the destruction firsthand, and has emphasized the need to provide subsistence to Sderot’s businesses, as well as other forms of assistance.

“We must provide assistance for small business owners, or else the entire regional economy will collapse,” said Vigdor after his recent trip to the region. Likewise, the Jewish Agency recognizes the continuous need to provide employment for those in needs, a goal which will take significant funding and efforts to achieve.

Despite our continuous efforts to help the residents of Sderot, our work is far from over. As the summer approaches, the Jewish Agency is planning to offer the children of Sderot educational enrichment and the ability to attend summer camp in a safe area. And as the missiles continue to fall, the Jewish Agency will continue to rebuild and reinforce the buildings that compose the neighborhood’s infrastructure.

Although these goals are lofty and expensive, the Jewish Agency is committed to succeed- and we can do so with your help.  To find out more about how you can help, click here.
