Tiberias: Investment of 4.5 million NIS in Youth Futures

With the assistance of a generous grant of $250,000 from the Crown Foundation in Chicago, the Jewish Agency’s latest program - Youth Futures - started this year in Tiberias.  The Jewish Agency will double the donation each year, so that in 2006-2007, 2,250,000 NIS will be invested in the area. The   Project 2000 branch in Tiberias is administering and supervising the program.  The mayor of Tiberias, Zohar Oved, praised the project in a joint meeting with the Crown Foundation’s representative Marvin Cohen and the director general of the Jewish Agency Israel department, Leah Golan. Oved expressed his satisfaction and promised the municipalities full cooperation in implementing the program.

Youth Futures, the Jewish Agency’s Israel departments new program, will focus on assisting youth at risk, with preference given to the peripheral areas (Galilee, Negev and Jerusalem).  The Crown Foundation grant is specifically for children between the ages of 6-13 who are in danger of dropping out from school or from other educational frameworks.  The Jewish Agency donation will allow the program to expand and include youth until the age of 18 and enrichment programs in the schools.  Chair of the Israeli Steering Committee, Mayor Motti Dotan of the Lower Galilee Regional Council and the steering  committee of Partnership 2000 in Tiberias  and Sovev Kinneret Region gave their blessings for a successful beginning.
