New settlement in Central Arava - first in 24 years

Clean air, great climate, tranquility - those are just some of the reasons cited for moving to Tsukim, a new community in Israel's south. This is the first time in 24 years that a new settlement is being built in the Central Arava, thanks to assistance from the Jewish Agency, the Jewish National Fund, and the government of Israel. In contrast to the moshavim that dot the region, Tsukim, will be a community settlement, based primarily on tourism, business, light industry, and high-tech. The groundbreaking ceremony for the community, which will eventually accommodate 155 families, was held in early January. Construction has already begun on the first twenty lots.
