Weinberg Foundation Donation For Dental Clinic

Hundreds of needy children will receive free dental treatment thanks to a NIS 850,000 contribution from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation through the Jewish Agency.

The president of the Weinberg Foundation, Bernie Siegel, has announced that the Foundation will donate NIS 850,000 during 2004 for a comprehensive project to renovate and upgrade a dental clinic serving needy children in Jerusalem, many of them new immigrants.

The clinic, located in the Mekor Haim neighborhood, has been operated by Dentists Volunteering for Israel (DVI), for the past 20 years. Each day, some 50 children receive dental treatment as well as instruction in oral hygiene. The clinic is staffed by volunteer dentists from Israel and from 13 other countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, Scandinavia, etc. 20,000 children have received treatment at the clinic since it began.

According to Jeff Kaye, the Director of the Jewish Agency's Israel Education Fund, which solicited the donation, "This donation attests to the warm and close bond between Jewish communities abroad and the State of Israel and the Jewish people, and their willingness to help in every possible way. The Weinberg Foundation gives millions of dollars to Jewish Agency projects every year. Its generosity is felt in every corner of Israel."
