Jewish Agency for Israel Agrees to House 58 Refugees from Sudan

July 9 2007 / 23 Tammuz 5767

The Jewish Agency for Israel, in response to a special request from the office of the Prime Minister of Israel, has agreed to house 58 refugees from Sudan in the Jewish Agency`s student village "Ibim" near Sderot. These refugees were turned away on Monday by the municipality of Beersheva, where they arrived after entering Israel.

"Ibim" is a Jewish Agency absorption center for new immigrant students from around the world. Jewish Agency Chairman Zeev Bielski said:"This is a humanitarian gesture to human beings in distress."
