Zeev Bielski was born, raised and educated in Jerusalem. He served in the Israel Defense Forces from 1967 through 1970. His last rank was Major. Zeev graduated with a BA in Economics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In 1982, he moved with his family to Ra'anana, where he served as mayor from 1989 to 2005.

Public Activities

  • Chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency and the World Zionist Organization 2005 to Present

  • Mayor of the City of Ra'anana 1989-2005

  • Deputy Chairman of the Union of Local Authorities in Israel 1996-1999

  • National Chairman of the "Al-Sam" (anti-drug) Organization 1994-1996

  • Chairman of the Absorption Committee, Union of Local Authorities 1989-1993

  • Head of JAFI Aliyah Dept. in South Africa 1977-1980

  • Founders and President of "The Israeli Forum"

Current Positions on Government and Public Committees

  • Member of the Council for Cable and Satellite Television

  • Member of Israeli Schools Sports Association

  • Member of the Public Council for the Schneider Children Hospital

  • Member of committee to avoid a conflict of interest for elected officials in local authorities

  • Local Authorities representative on National Committee for Planning and Construction of national infrastructure

  • Member of the Council of the Society for the Protection of Nature

Awards

  • Received the “Shalem Fund” Honorary Award for his commitment and dedication to the development of municipal services for the developmentally disabled.

  • Decorated as Knight of Quality Government 2000 from the Movement for the Quality of Government in Israel, for Ra'anana's outstanding management as a Local Authority, for its achievements in education, development of green areas, parks and efficient financial management.

  • Decorated as Honorary Scout 2000 by the Scouts Movement for his ongoing activities to develop and promote the Scouts Movement in Raanana and in Israel.
