Gavri Bargil is the Secretary General of the Kibbutz Movement from 2000. He was born in Kibbutz Ramot Menashe in 1958. Following his extended military service Bargil underwent an intensive training program in the army to prepare him to serve as brigade commander. Between 1990 and 1996 he served as brigade commander holding the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Between 1994 and 1996 he served as the Secretary of Kibbutz Ramot Menashe and promoted a strategic plan for the demographic and economic recovery of the Kibbutz. Between 1984 and 1988 Bargil held several executive positions in the Kibbutz Artzi Federation, including the position of Director of Training of Hashomer Hatzair National Leadership Program in Israel. In 1988, at the outbreak of the Intifada, Bargil joined Peace Now as an activist, and soon after, he assumed the position of Peace Now Executive Director. Bargil was involved in co-directing, with Ziad Abu Ziad, the Israeli-Palestinian Information Center for Peace.
In 1994 Bargil received his M.A. in Political Science, from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
During the years 1996-1999 Bargil was the head shaliach of the Kibbutz Artzi in North America. He was also political representative of Meretz and Peace Now.
Gavri Bargil is a Member of the Board of Governors since June 2004.
